A Data Deep Dive: How Water Utilities Are Scaling Asset Management with mWater

Building sustainable water services is less about the initial construction and more about the quiet work that happens every day to keep systems running.

We’ve just released a new data deep dive into how mWater continues to evolve from a mapping tool into a long-term system of record for utilities and governments. Since 2020, we’ve seen a massive acceleration in assets managed on the platform, now approaching the 800,000 mark.

What the data tells us:

A Shift in Ownership: While NGOs are still vital, water utilities and national governments are now managing over 380,000 assets combined as they move toward digital-first operations.

Operational Depth: It’s not just dots on a map. Users are tracking 290,000+ individual connections and 100,000+ pipes to manage real-world infrastructure at scale.

Regional Leaders: Indonesia is currently leading the way in infrastructure visibility with over 100,000 assets documented.

This growth signals a broader shift from short-term projects to ongoing, data-driven service delivery.
