Newest mWater Admin Training scheduled for Kathmandu, Nepal
December 9th - 11th, 2019

About the events

Who should come?

This training is intended as a Train the Trainers event aimed at administrators of monitoring systems and trainers of enumerator teams for the fields of water, sanitation, and health. The ideal attendee is a government, multilateral, or NGO manager who oversees data management, data cleaning, and/or field enumerations for inline and endline monitoring, metrics that matter monitoring, and for impact evaluations.

About the trainings

mWater's Product Manager Petri Autio will personally run each event. In addition to training, each day the team will provide private office hours for consulting on the topics of creating a management system, using established indicators for comparable data with the larger WaSH community, creating reports and dashboards, using mWater test kits for water quality monitoring, and many other topics as requested from attendees.

The broader community of attendees is also a value of this event. Each time we hold a training, we share the best practices we have discovered from working with over 50,000 WaSH professionals around the world. Here, they can share in person and network for future collaborations.

Event schedule

Day 1
Training of Trainers: a best practices approach for training enumerator teams for frontend data collection in the field. Introduction to teaching Android use, teaching mWater Surveyor for enumerators, and cleaning data as it comes in, in real time.

Among our greatest domains of expertise is how to take individuals who have never touched a smart phone and turn them into digital enumeration experts within a few days. This training of trainers will include basics like the best approach for teaching first time smartphone users profiency with mobile fluency, introducing new enumerators to the mWater Surveyor app, ethics for effective and respectful data collection, and (most important!) troubleshooting problems when something goes wrong, ranging from user error to identifying and reporting software bugs.

Building on our experience of advising monitoring systems for local governments, utilities, NGOs, the UN, World Bank, and USAID in 170 countries, mWater experts will help users create or improve their data-driven monitoring systems.

Day 2
Creating monitoring systems from your organization management chart to reports for donors, partners, and colleagues. Managing and sharing data in maps, dashboards, datagrids, and consoles.

Beginning at the indicator level and working backward all the way to creating well-designed forms, this day will include using indicators, designing effective survey instruments, translating surveys using the new in-portal translate interface, and using various question types in forms.

Interactive tutorial on how to clean data as it comes in, in real time by evaluating visualizations and datagrids; and accepting/rejecting submitted surveys.

The details of dashbaords, maps, and consoles include creating widgets, writing data queries, and balancing filters and layers. User interfaces for the views of your data differ greatly depending on whether the audience is donors, collaborators, colleagues, enumerators, or end users of your WaSH products.

This day brings data-based management full circle with a focus on data-driven dashboards, reports, maps, and other platforms for sharing the results of your work.

Day 3
One-on-one Office Hours (by appointment)

Attendees can book time with mWater founders to have in-depth tutorials that address specific needs and questions about the platform.
